I’ve had Lucy her whole life, in fact I had a deposit on her before she was born and I got the pick of the litter. Fortunately the litter was only 4 puppies and I had my heart set on a female tri-color, so I had a choice of two. I got to meet her when she was 6 weeks old, and as soon as she belted out her first Basenji yodel, I knew she was my girl. She got delivered to me at 9 weeks old and we’ve been together since. I already had a Greyhound (Markus) and a male red and white Basenji boy (Bart). Markus quickly became her own personal greyhound and constant companion. I lost Markus in 1998, she then decided she could be friends with Bart now. I lost Bart in 2000. Lucy didn’t mind at all being the only dog, now she got ALL, and everybody’s attention. I rescued another Basenji red and white boy (Chili) in 2001. It took quite some time for Lucy to warm up to him, but they finally did became great pals. I lost Chili in 2006. Lucy outlived all the boys. Although I loved all the boys, Lucy was the joy and light of my life. She passed away just 11 weeks shy of her 15 birthday of terminal brain cancer. She had a great and long life and was my very best friend and confidante. Be at peace now my sweetheart, I love you and send you kisses everyday. You’ll live in my heart forever.
